VR&E support-and-services tracks

If you’re a Veteran or service member with a service-connected disability that impacts your ability to work, the Veteran Readiness and Employment program (formerly called Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) may be able to help. We offer 5 support-and-services tracks to help you get education or training, find and keep a job, and live as independently as possible. Explore the different tracks—and find out how to apply for benefits and services.


Reemployment track

If you’re a Veteran with a service-connected disability, the Reemployment track can help you return to your former job and support your employer in meeting your needs.

CT Hires

CTHires is a virtual one-stop website for employers and job seekers in Connecticut. Job seekers can register on CTHires.com for no-cost access to new jobs and virtual workshops that will help them create powerful resumes and online profiles, write attention-getting cover letters, and improve their interview skills. CTHires is also a collection of annual labor information that reports data on employment and wage information by industry for Connecticut and for counties, towns, Labor Market Areas and Workforce Investment Areas. All Connecticut employers are required to report all newly-hired employees within 20 days of hiring them, and CTHires is part of the effort to provide employers with fast, reliable, and secure options for reporting their new hires as required by Federal and State regulations.

Connecticut Troops to Teachers

Connecticut Troops to Teachers is a program for all service members and veterans to receive counseling, financial and placement assistance in transitioning their leadership, core values and acquired skills to a career in teaching.


Supported by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) Talent Office and the national Troops to Teachers program, facilitated by the U.S. Department of Defense, Troops to Teachers has helped more than 21,000 veterans successfully transition to a career in education.

Work Vessels for Veterans

Mission: Work Vessels for Veterans, Inc. equips America's injured Post 9/11 veterans with donations of vessels, tools, or vehicles to start a business or pursue career education.


Results: Since 2008, over 3000 veterans across America have received "vessels" for self-employment valued at over $4 million! WVFV is the conduit nonprofit through which a corporation or individual may donate equipment to qualified veteran-entrepreneurs.


Target demographics: America's returning veterans with the equipment they need to start a business


Programs: donations of the equipment they need to start a new business or pursue career education. One of our first veteran enterprises reports to us that he has hired 40 veterans and 8 family members of veterans in his business that has expanded to two states! Your donations make a difference!

Operation Warfighter

Are you an active duty wounded, ill, or injured service member looking for an internship opportunity?


Operation Warfighter (OWF) is a Department of Defense internship program that matches qualified wounded, ill, and injured service members with non-funded federal internships in order for them to gain valuable work experience during their recovery and rehabilitation. This process assists with the service members’ reintegration to duty, or transition into the civilian work environment where they are able to employ their newly acquired skills in a non-military work setting.
